Cleaning and Maintaining Your Swimwear

SwimSale.com offers an exotic range of swimming costumes including bikini separates, one piece swimsuits, bikini sets, tankinis and cover ups. Unlike other clothes, swimwear demands a higher degree of care and maintenance to enhance their durability and to keep their sheen intact. Proper cleaning techniques must be used to prolong the life of your favorite bikinis and tankinis. Here are some tips for cleaning your swimsuit:

  • Almost all swimsuits come with a manufacturer’s tag wherein all the possible care and maintenance instructions are provided. Always read these instructions before proceeding any further.
  • Usually hand washing is best for swimwear, but if you are washing them in a washing machine, use gentle cycles and avoid drying.
  • Dip the soiled bikinis or tankinis in a mixture of mild detergent and lukewarm water shortly within 1-2 hours of wearing them. Hand wash them for a sparkling clean and smart look. Woolite is one of the most commonly recommended detergents that give a new lease on life to your swim wear.
  • Try to keep your swim wear out of the contact of sun tan oils as these have the tendency to damage the fabric and play havoc with the color. Avoid oil based sunscreen lotions and creams. Wash out the sunscreen oils as soon as you get back from a sea side excursion or a water park.
  • All the chemicals, chlorine, and ocean salt damage the fabric and the elasticity of the swim wear. Rinse off bikinis and tankinis in a mixture of mild detergent and lukewarm water as soon as you get back home. To remove the chlorine stench from swimwear, apply a product found in pet stores to get rid of chlorine from fish aquariums.
  • A tanned bikini line looks simply sexy, but the swim wear does not have to bear the brunt. Prolonged exposure to the sun makes the color fade and the fabric no longer retains the original color. Even direct sunlight while drying your bikinis leads to fading out of the color. So, dry it on a flat surface away from direct sunlight.
  • Bleaching agents and dry cleaning of swim wear is a big NO. Doing so will make the fibers of the swimsuit damaged beyond repair. Moreover, tumble drying is not recommended for swim wear.
  • Wearing the same couple of swimsuits over and over again is not a good idea as frequent washing is not good for their longevity. Therefore, buy multiple swimsuits so that your frequency of wearing and washing them becomes less.

We hope these maintenance tips will help you keep your swimwear intact.
